OUR STORY

Kin was born from loss — and from love.

A personal story about why Kin exists — and why preserving a voice can matter more than we ever expect.

Rory Cornelius — CEO & Founder

Kin was born from loss — and from love. In 2020, during the height of COVID, I (Rory Cornelius - CEO and Founder) lost my dad. Like many families, we were left with unanswered questions, unfinished conversations, and a silence that arrived far too suddenly. What I didn’t realize at the time was that the hardest part wouldn’t just be missing him — it would be knowing that I’d never hear his voice again. Never ask him for advice. Never hear his stories the way only he could tell them. As time passed, that feeling only deepened. I began thinking about the moments we take for granted. The sound of a laugh. The way someone explains a lesson. The stories that only come out late at night or during quiet mornings. These are the things that disappear when someone is gone — and once they’re gone, they’re gone forever. That realization became even heavier when I thought about the future. My dad passed away before I had children. One day, my kids will ask about him — who he was, what he believed, what kind of man he was. And all I’ll be able to offer are secondhand stories and old photos. They won’t truly know him. They won’t hear his voice. They won’t be able to ask him questions the way I wish I still could. Kin exists because that felt unacceptable. I started imagining a world where the people we love don’t disappear all at once. A world where stories are preserved naturally, voices are saved intentionally, and wisdom doesn’t vanish with time.
